PICS REMIX
THE STORY BEHIND THE PHOTOGRAPHY
Pics Remix began as a series on Yield to Pedestrian which featured a photo and short story in which I attempted to explain the real circumstances and events that took place immediately before or after some artsy-ish photo I tried to take, usually somewhere in Asia.
Eventually, Pics Remix became popular enough to merit its own website at http://picsremix.com You can get a short story/travel story fix once a week at its new home.
The point of Pics Remix was and is two-fold. First, it puts to use all the thousands of photos I have taken over the years, and helps me remember the (usually) amusing moments that accompanied them. Second, it satisfies my need to debunk the National Geographic myth that travel is serene and that beautiful photography in foreign places is somehow indicative of the the rest of the place looking like that too. Cause it isn’t.
Photography abroad is like photography at home: there are beautiful moments sandwiched in between chaos and normalcy and boring things and exciting things that don’t photograph very well. In other words: life.
Below are some of the photos featured in the Pics Remix series when it lived here at Yield to Pedestrian. I am slowly migrating these posts over to the new site once a week, and will update all the links when they finish posting in late April 2009. So go on over to Pics Remix, subscribe to the feed, tell me what you think of the design, and contribute your own story if you like.
