Now that we are moving to a house with much bigger beds and gardening space, my long supressed interest in gardening, especially in growing vegetables and fruits, is rearing up. I have been reading, at the advice of the YTP LB, the tips and tricks over at Square Foot Gardening, which sound pretty amazing.
I basically have four large beds, which I plan to plant with a mix of vegetables, herbs, and flowers. I am considering growing them in all the Euro tradition of mixing flowers with edibles for a more diverse look.
So for all you avid gardeners out there, what are your suggestions? I have some deep beds, some narrow ones, some on an angle, and some flat but with shade – in short, all the different varities out there that are possible. What do you like to grow? What veggie crop taste the best when homegrown compared to store-bought?
I’m counting on the gardening experts out there to help me out.
And most important of all!? Has anyone used the BioDome before to get the seedlings going? I am curious if it is worth the investment, or if the square foot gardening method eliminates the need for it.
Yours in gardening mania – YTP

mmmm, nothing better than fresh, home grown tomatoes!!! Nice post. Marigolds are a good flowering plant to mix with veggies… wards off the bad nematodes!
Two words – go vertical. Build it and they will climb. (Hmmm- that sounds familiar, in a strange way). Seriously, bury an upright sturdy lattice or a wired framework and beans, cucumbers, et al will climb like crazy. The side benefit it is easier to see and harvest the veggies. Enjoy!
