I have had the best time exploring Google Ocean. It is not quite what I thought it would be, but it surprised me in more ways than it disappointed. I had expectations of higher resolution of underwater ocean formations. While the res was decent, it was not spectacular.
However, I loved tracking the sharks and zooming in on coral reefs and atolls, such as the Midway Islands. The addition of Google Ocean’s stats really makes low-lying land like the atolls visually stunning on Google Earth/Ocean. Shorelines are equally interesting. That is where Google Ocean really makes a contribution: that crazy point of activity where dry land descends into ocean floor.
Get a snack, block out an hour, and go discover the world from the comfort of your desk. And just when you think you have explored enough, type in a name or location in the “fly to” box and watch the world spin. I love doing that.
