The Sun Will Come Out (But Not Tomorrow)

What amazes me about this photo is not the image itself but what it doesn’t show: the six months of darkness that preceded this sunrise. This is the sunrise, the one that happens way down south after many mornings where there sun doesn’t come out. At all.

Even more amazing? The U.S. research station on Antarctica pictured here is staffed year round. Really puts our comfortable lives in perspective, doesn’t it?
