Homestar Runner

Most of you know of my long-standing fondness for the website homestarrunner.com. It often surprises people that a cartoon written by two thirty-something brothers about a Mexican wrestler named “Strong Bad” and his dorky friend “Homestar” would appeal to me as much as it does, but what can I say. It is funny. It is also totally designed for late Gen X/early Gen Y members, since most of the humor comes from cultural references to things people that age experienced in childhood and the teen years: G.I Joe cartoons, Atari games, early computer games, 80′s hair bands, the emergence of grunge/alternative music, and similar amusements.

It is also so big now that you almost need guidance about where to even begin. So here it is: start with the characters, so you know who everyone is. If you don’t want to watch them all, just click on Homestar, Strong Bad, and the Cheat. Then move on to some of the emails Strong Bad responds to each week. These are my favorites: The Office Dullard, Theme Park (hang on to the very end of this one), Guitar, and Sisters. If you have watched all this and still think that I have totally jumped the shark, there is no more I can do for you. But if you are hooked, move on to the best of the best: Teen Girl Squad. You can thank me later.
